Delegation of Bulgarian Mayors Received at Porto City Hall

We publish an English translation of the official article by Porto City Council dedicated to the visit of the Bulgarian delegation to the city.

A Bulgarian delegation of 25 representatives, with a strong presence of local authorities and municipal organisations, was received on Thursday at Porto City Hall by Mayor Pedro Duarte and Hugo Beirão Rodrigues, Councillor responsible for Economy and Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Internationalisation.

As part of the visit, jointly organised by Porto City Council and Bulgaria Economic Forum (BEF), the delegation had the opportunity to learn more about the municipality’s projects in the fields of tourism and internationalisation, as well as the work of InvestPorto.

In the D. Maria Hall, Pedro Duarte highlighted the opportunity “to continue strengthening cooperation between Porto City Council and its Bulgarian counterparts”.

“This cooperation brings benefits to both sides by promoting the exchange of experience, the sharing of good practices and the development of joint projects in areas that are critical to the quality of life in cities,” he said.

“We have had the honour of welcoming high-ranking Bulgarian representatives to our municipality, including ambassadors, local government representatives and even the then President of the Republic of Bulgaria and now Prime Minister, Rumen Radev, who was presented with the Keys to the City. It is now important that we continue working to strengthen Porto’s network of relations with Bulgarian municipalities and other organisations,” the Mayor added.

During the meeting, the Mayor of Porto was accompanied by Hugo Beirão Rodrigues, Councillor (Deputy Mayor) responsible for Economy and Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Internationalisation.

The Chairman of Bulgaria Economic Forum, George Tabakov, also highlighted the excellent relations between the two countries and the two institutions.

Bulgaria Economic Forum is a non-profit organisation with a history spanning almost 30 years, supporting the Bulgarian business community and local authorities in attracting investment, internationalisation and modernisation. The organisation promotes visits by Bulgarian politicians and public officials to various European cities with the aim of learning from successful local practices across a wide range of areas and sectors and establishing partnerships with local authorities.

It was in this context that the delegation learned about the municipality’s projects in the fields of tourism and internationalisation, as well as the work of InvestPorto.

Following the presentations, the delegation was given a brief tour of Porto City Hall. The Bulgarian delegation then proceeded to Estádio do Dragão.
