Bulgaria Economic Forum Organised a National Capacity-Building Workshop under NONA Project in Haskovo

On 19 June 2026, a National Capacity-Building Workshop was held in Haskovo within the framework of the project NONA – New gOvernance for New spAces, implemented under the Interreg Danube Region Programme 2021–2027.

The event was organised by the Bulgaria Economic Forum and brought together representatives of different municipalities, municipal enterprises, business organisations, and other local stakeholders engaged in sustainable urban development and the regeneration of degraded urban areas.

During the seminar, participants were introduced to the objectives, activities, and expected results of the NONA project. Particular attention was paid to the need for innovative governance models for underused and degraded urban areas, as well as to opportunities for transforming such areas into places of economic, social, and community value.

Participants also learned about good practices from the project partner countries and discussed the role of local authorities, businesses, and civil society organisations in urban regeneration processes. The discussion session focused on specific challenges and opportunities facing Haskovo Municipality regarding the future development and effective utilisation of degraded urban and industrial areas.

The second part of the event was organised as a working dinner, providing an opportunity for participants to exchange views and ideas on attracting investments to degraded urban and industrial sites. Discussions addressed potential financing models, public-private partnerships, and mechanisms for actively involving local stakeholders in urban regeneration initiatives.

The seminar contributed to raising awareness of the objectives of the NONA project and encouraged dialogue among local institutions, businesses, and civil society representatives on sustainable urban development and the revitalisation of neglected spaces.
